1 Corinthians 15:10
"By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vein."
In a world fraught with rigid standards and labels, it is easy for us to think, I am to short, I am too dark, I’m too heavy, my face is too round, I’m too outspoken or what ever thoughts or actions of destruction we might bring upon ourselves. On the worst days, all those negative images bear down on us and we can hardly face ourselves in the mirror.
But on the best days, when we know our families are safe, the skies are absent of lighting and our brothers in golf are calling, its these days when golf runs through our veins, the driver seems to go longer and straighter and the putter seems to rolls a little more true. We feel the resurrection down to our toes.
Some of you may not understand our devotion to the game and the people who play it nor do you realize the fraternal comradery the pro duffer members have for one another. You see, it is more than just a game, it’s a brotherhood. Roy is a member of the Pro Duffers Golf Club, Southwest Chapter and has been for over 17 year. A devoted member of our chapter, our national membership and the game itself. He served on numerous committees over the years as a member but his distinction was serving as our Tournament Director. The tournament directors responsibility is one of the more difficult and demanding positions on our the executive committee. Roy was relentless in that responsibility and was at his best when negotiating with the golf courses and making sure all of our members were where they were suppose to be and when. Our end of the year tournament "The Thanksgiving turkey shoot" was his "Crème de la Crème" we could always count on Roy pull that one off in grand fashion. The process is underway to re-name our end of the year tournament in honor of Roy Lee Rogers. However, words and actions can not express our loss and grief.
He was a Son, husband, father, new grandfather, Pro Duffer and friend. He will always be in our hearts. Now he has joined a very special group of Pro Duffers who play a continuous round of golf in heaven. Dr. William Conrad.. 1986, Mr. Dave Snipes.. 1991, Mr. Bill Gaines.. 1999, Mr. John Freeman..2000, Dr. Foster Kidd 2001, Atty. W.E. Walton 2001 and Mr. Elmer Reed 2001. Its difficult for us not to anguish in his passing but Pro Duffer Roy Lee Rogers is among friends and family.Thomas H. Sweeney
