Monthly Meeting Minutes

August 30, 2001

Meeting was called to order by the President, Thomas Sweeney at 7:05

Members present: Vernon Bland, Jerome Caulk, Mark Cooks, Aric Cooper, Russell Cuffee, Andy Flye, Richmond Gray, Leroy Harris, Rick Heiskell, Warren Lee, Roy Mc Claney, John Nelson, Roy Rogers, Thomas Sweeney, Hubert Threats, Carl Williams, Jerry Woodard.

Previous minutes were mailed or e-mailed to each member. Minutes approved.

No correspondence

Committee Reports:

Financial Report: Tournament Account. Thomas Sweeney. The tournament account is with in budget with a balance of $1864.41. The only check that is out is a deposit to Tangle Ridge Golf course of $200.

Handicap Report: Hubert Threats. The handicaps have been revitalized. The last two years of play have been entered into the system. Most members are approaching the twenty score verification mark. A motion was made and passed to utilize the improved handicaps. The Club Championship scores will be added to the improved handicap system. The handicaps initiated before the club championship will be used to determine the winners of the Club Championship. From this point and beyond all sanctioned Pro Duffers tournament scores will be used to determine the handicap.

Tournament Director: Roy Rogers/Mc Claney: The Club championship will be held on the 8th and 9th of September at Tangle Ridge Golf course. Tee Times will begin at 9 am. Check in is at 8am. Gross and Net Club Champions will be in each flight.

The final score for the Team competition will be at the fall retreat.

Benefit Tournament: Jerry Woodward. The Benefit tournament committee did an excellent job in presented our 19th annual tournament. Participation, registration, hospitality, golf course were all excellent. The question arises however who and what the tournament benefitted. It was a break even event.

Membership committee: Andy Flies: New member resumes were to be turned in at this meeting. A motion was made and second to hold a moratorium on new members for the 2002 season. A motion was made ask for by the President to establish a new member process. The motion was made, second and carried.  Henceforth: 1. New member applications will be turned in at the August meeting. 2. Members will vote on the new member application at the September meeting. 3. New members will be processed with uniforms, class A's etc., and have there dues paid by the October meeting. 4. An invitation to the retreat will be extended to introduce the new member to the club. 5. New members will be inducted at the Annual Banquet.    

Elections: Big Daddy: Elections will be held at the September Meeting. All members interested in becoming an officer of the south west chapter please announce your intention. Nominations will be excepted from the floor and the vote will be by secret ballot as provided by in the By-Laws - Constitution.

Fall Retreat: The fall retreat is scheduled for October 12/13 2001 at Garden Valley. This may change because of golf course conditions. Information will follow.

Texas State Amateur Golf Association: The Pro Duffers south West Chapter will be co-host to the State Tournament in July of 2002. Eddie Mayberry and Warren Lee will be the chairmen of this event.

Meeting locations: Alternating meeting location are being looked at for the upcoming year. Suggestions are needed for alternate meeting locations. Forward to the executive committee.

The Southwest Chapter will host the 2002 National Tournament and meeting. A proposal will be presented at the national meeting in Jamaica at the end of September. The proposed site is Columbia Lakes, 45 minutes from Houston.

Next meeting will be held on September 20, 2001. The 4th week is the National Meeting.
