Windy Weather Golf

Playing golf in windy conditions calls for definite game adjustments both in club selection as well as in the types of shots played. The most important game adjustment is to maintain good tempo and to avoid the temptation to overpower a shot when faced with either a head wind or tail wind.

Upwind, tee the ball slightly lower and play the ball 1" to 2" farther back in your stance.
With a headwind, drop down one or two clubs and play a lower shot into the green. Swing easy.
With a tailwind, tee the ball slightly higher than normal. Play it a bit forward in your stance and slow your tempo. Swing easy and avoid the temptation to smash the ball.
Tee away from trouble. Play from the right of the tee when the wind is from the left and allow for drift.
